Who Should be the Designer in Equitable Design?

Still, it is well-argued how to get there: as Design has transitioned from craft to academia, so must our perspective on the role of designers. Undoubtedly, it is essential to involve end-users in the design process — how much, how early, how often seems to be the challenge most governments and businesses face. As we seek to design more equitable and inclusive services, products and experiences, how do we transition the designer's role from the person who creates to the person who enables design? How do we manage the power shift to the user without losing design theory or putting an undue burden on the citizen or consumer? How do we make equitable the design process and the result?
