Can we Engineer our way out of Climate Change?

Geoengineering is a growing area of study to see if the earth’s processes can be altered to stop the planet from warming. Cloud brightening, stratospheric aerosol injection, artificial upwelling, and surface brightening of the Arctic are ideas being explored. But what are the risks and downstream effects of researching and deploying these interventions? What domestic and international law and policies should be put in place to constrain potential misuse? This panel will discuss the scientific, equity, and social implications of climate geoengineering, and catastrophic effects that could occur if interventions are implemented without swiftly bringing greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero.
