Judaism and Psychedelics

Psychedelics are reinvigorating Judaism. From Jews of ultra-Orthodox backgrounds who are using psychedelics to rediscover their identities and relationship to spirituality, to those who are turning to psychedelic medicines to heal from intergenerational Jewish trauma, the world of psychedelic Judaism has roots even in Biblical times with ancient shamanic rituals involving entheogenic plants. Indeed, the Jewish religion itself can be a container to engender psychedelic experiences — with or without the drugs — while also offering a framework to understand and make sense of expanded states of consciousness. Rabbis, mystics, scientists, physicians, and others are on board with the Jewish psychedelic renaissance — as illustrated by the Jewish Psychedelic Summit, which drew about 1500 people in May.
