Creating a Less Lonely World for our Elders
This event took place on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 2:30 PM UTC.
Loneliness has been one of the hottest pandemic topics, but it was considered an epidemic long before quarantine. Prolonged social isolation can be as damaging to one’s health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and it disproportionally affects the aging population. When we consider that and add in the extreme isolation that was brought on by COVID-19, the mental and physical consequences compounded - and our elders bore the brunt of it. However, there are all kinds of organizations working on solutions. With new programs, non-profit initiatives, and technologies, there has never been more energy focused on solving the issue of loneliness. This session will shed light on the various ways that we are addressing the loneliness crisis and how we can all create a healthier aging experience.
