MaaS Appeal: Mobility-as-a-Service or Fantasy App?

Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) promises a future where you can plan, book, and pay for multi-modal transportation on one app. Supporters of MaaS believe centralizing travel options and making them more convenient will speed the shift away from private vehicles. Although centralized information is key, a customer-facing app alone is unlikely to succeed in convincing people to ditch their cars. Before any app is built, we need better coordination between service providers across the public and private sectors on planning, pricing, and data sharing to enable reliable multi-modal journeys. In this panel, we’ll discuss the limits of customer-facing platforms alone, how mobility providers can better coordinate services, and the role of the public and private sectors in steering that coordination.
