There is an urgent need for rapid advances that address societal challenges such as human health, climate change, sustainable agriculture and food production, equitable access to education, and more. While the U.S. leads the world in research and innovation, there is unprecedented global competition and a risk of falling behind if we do not take action now. At the same time, the Nation is poised to seize an unprecedented opportunity, integrating data and emerging technologies, a demand for near-term solutions, and the potential of multi-sector partnerships.
