As global efforts to regulate digital assets markets ramp up, there is growing pressure on industry firms to ensure their customers are protected from fraud. Many firms insist that their KYC, AML, and general surveillance protocols have improved since fraud peaked during the pandemic. Is it possible to resolve the tension between centralisation, and crypto’s traditionally decentralised ethos? As firms make further inroads towards TradFi institutions, will we see consumer protection concerns better enforced? Or is the market already making the right moves to combat financial crime?
