Fireside chat with Permanent representatives to NATO: NATO on the road to the 2023 Vilnius Summit

The 2022 NATO Madrid Summit took crucial decisions in response to the Russian full-scale aggression against Ukraine. Allies decided to considerably enhance NATO’s deterrence and defense posture, including by ensuring deterrence by denial and the ability to defend forward. As Allies prepare to the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, one needs to assess the pace of the implementation of the Madrid decisions and reflect on the additional elements that should be considered in the coming months. How should we deliver on the concept of forward defense? What should be the successor of the 2014 Defense Investment Pledge? How can we boost our industrial capacity to respond both to the Ukrainian and Allied needs? Do we need a new NATO Military Strategy which would implement NATO Strategic Concept?
